Description:
This is a superb Persian Kashan from the 1910's in
pristine condition. The pile is 100% full, the sides and ends are
perfect. This rug is the best quality in perfect condition.
The rug is signed "Tafshanjian" at the top. The Tafshanjian family was
exiled to America after the genocide of Armenians in Turkey before 1900.
He was a very famous expert in Oriental rugs and began to make special
orders of Sarouk rugs for his American customers.
In order to compete with Mohtasham Kashan Manchester wool rugs, in 1910
Tafshanjian wove this custom made 20x12 rug for a rich American
customer.
The rug is made of Manchester (kork) wool. The script on the corners is
advice from the famous ancient Persian Book of Kalileh Demneh, which
reads "If the precious jewels like diamonds and emeralds fell in the
dirt and mud, they never lose their quality and value like good natured
people."
The rug was kept in excellent condition and its pile is better than
Mohtesham Kashan. This antique rug is very collectable.
