Description:
This is a superb antique L&JG Stickley
slatted Morris chair from the early 1900's Mission and Arts & Crafts
period in very good condition. This is a very rare Morris chair with an
excellent design and construction. There is excellent quarter sawn oak
all over with an original finish. There are double through tenons on the
arms which are corbelled and pinned. The legs display the quadrilinear
construction typical of L&JG Stickley. There are five slats under each
wide, paddle arm
and a great original adjustable back rest bar. The chair is very large
and bulky and has through tenon construction on the seat rails and
stretchers at the bottom. It is also double pinned on the front and
back. The chair is signed with a decal under one arm as pictured. The
back cushion and spring seat have been professionally recovered with
high quality, hand rubbed leather with cotton fill. This is a rare and
desirable chair and is highly collectible.
